"We don't know them all, but we owe them all"- Anonymous A Strong Foundation I worked hard in college for a 4-year finance degree and took on a full-time internship my junior and senior years. After graduating I moved to New York City to develop my experience as a buyer. Later, I relocated to San Diego by myself to further grow my career. In San Diego I met someone who would forever change the course of my life. Love Struck When I met my now-husband Kory, he was an active duty Naval helicopter pilot which he is to this day. When Kory and I got married, we had some major decision-making to do. As a military spouse, it can be very difficult to establish a career due to frequent moves across the country- and sometimes all over the world. A recent Department of Defense survey found that a quarter of military spouses are unemployed: I am extremely proud of Kory for serving our country, but it is also crucial for me to have my career accomplishments and aspirations. Making it Happen Perspective Fitwear was a concept living in my head for nearly 10 years by the time Kory and I decided to pull the trigger on starting the business. Being my own boss of a primarily online business would allow me the flexibility to work from anywhere. I gave birth to my first child in October and I take time off as needed without the risk of losing my job, which was a huge concern to me especially once my husband deploys. I am happy to say that I employ veterans and military spouses, and as PFW expands, I intend to extend career opportunities to members of the military community. Kory could not have been more supportive, which allowed me space to make PFW happen - which is equally as important! Community is Everything The community of the United States military is incredible. I am so humbled by the sacrifices of the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving America. This Memorial Day, PFW is giving back 10% of all Memorial Day Sale proceeds to Active Valor. Active Valor is a combat veteran-run non-profit organization in San Diego, CA, dedicated to giving new purpose to veterans by pairing them as mentors to children of our nation’s fallen heroes, referred to as Gold Star Children.
